What Is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation, or sleep dentistry, is an effective way to treat the most nervous patients. The effect is relaxing and calming, but doesn’t prevent communication between the dentist and you, the patient, so treatment can still be carried out easily.

We offer a thorough assessment of your physical condition, such as weight, age and medical history, before suitability for this kind of treatment is determined. But don’t worry, all this will be discussed during your stress free consultation with us.

Oral Sedation

This is a prescription of medication that can be taken as one tablet the night before, one in the morning and another one hour before treatment. You will be a bit drowsy, so it is very important that you do not drive and are accompanied to your appointment.

Inhalation Sedation

This is available in our practice. This is a very safe form of sedation which is suitable for children and adults. Recovery is quick and you are able to drive afterwards.

Intravenous Sedation

This is very popular if you are really nervous or phobic of dental care. The sedation is provided by a trained professional and can be deep or light. Many of our same day smile cases have this form of sedation, as with this you are really unaware of having had treatment.

In certain cases, we can also use other medications with the sedation which can provide enhanced pain relief and reduce any post-operative swelling. Again, a chaperone is essential and we can provide this service if required.
